Kenya and the United Arab Emirates have inked seven new agreements targeting a broad spectrum of sectors, signalling a deepening of diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.
The signing ceremony took place at the State House, Nairobi, witnessed by President William Ruto and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The deals, signed only months after the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement inked in January in Abu Dhabi, mark a fresh chapter in bilateral ties between the two nations.
Military cooperation to strengthen security
Kenyan and UAE officials confirmed that the military pact is designed to enhance national security, boost defence capacity, strengthen institutional partnerships, and promote regional peace and stability under national laws and international obligations.

The energy agreement targets renewable projects, including wind, solar, and geothermal power, with the aim of increasing technical expertise, transferring advanced technologies, and accelerating Kenya’s clean energy transition to improve nationwide access.

A Kenya-UAE Joint Business Council will be established to deepen trade and investment relations between the private sectors of both countries. The council will also provide joint recommendations to the two governments to foster stronger business engagement.
Railway development through strategic partnership
The Kenya Railways Corporation and the UAE’s Etihad Rail Company have formalised a partnership focused on knowledge sharing, feasibility assessments, testing new technologies, and exploring additional avenues to advance Kenya’s railway and industrial development.
Kenya’s government views these agreements as a strategic move to attract foreign investment, accelerate infrastructure projects, and reinforce national security, while cementing the UAE’s role as a key international partner in its development journey.
