This weekend, more than 110 golfers from Kisumu and neighbouring counties will tee off at Nyanza Golf Club as the KCB East Africa Golf Tour returns for its twelfth leg, promising a gripping contest on the club’s famously unforgiving course.

Among those expected to headline the competition are Joseph Atito, Nishal Shah, David Omolo, Dr Rosemary Obara, and junior talent Tony Nyambogo, each aiming to clinch one of the coveted slots in the tour’s grand finale.

The club’s captain, Griffin Owino, expressed confidence in the event’s success and the condition of the course, stating, “Nyanza Golf Club has traditionally been a challenging course. Many players are always eager to come here to compete in various events. We are excited to be part of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour for the third year running, highlighting the growth of golf in this region. The course is in the absolute best condition and we are optimistic we will have a fantastic showpiece.”

The tournament has travelled widely across Kenya this season, having already been staged in Kiambu, Kericho, Nandi, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Nanyuki, with one international stop in Burundi further reflecting its growing regional profile.

KCB Group’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Rosalind Gichuru, underscored the importance of the Nyanza stop, noting the region’s role in advancing youth development in the sport.

“We cannot overlook the growing influence of golf in the Nyanza region. The emphasis on youth development aligns perfectly with our brand values," Gichuru said.

"This weekend, we will be making a stop at the Nyanza Golf Club for a competitive tournament, where the top two teams will secure their place in the tour’s grand finale set for December 5. As we get closer to the finale, players are raising their game in hopes of earning a spot.”

Over 1,500 golfers have already taken part in the series this year, while more than 1,000 juniors have benefitted from the tour’s parallel clinics aimed at mentoring young players.

Nyanza’s own junior clinic will take place on 15 June, 2025 with KCB hosting the exclusive session to further grow the next generation of golfers.

Once the Kisumu event concludes, attention will shift to Kiambu, where the tour continues on 21 June 2025, as the competition narrows towards the December finale.
