Kenyan veteran rapper who relocated to the US, Nonini, has threatened to sue a local digital media station for defamation over a story it published after his ‘Kenyans in Diaspora’ event.

Nonini, real name Hubert Mbuku Nakitare, has sent Tuko a letter demanding retraction of the story and publishing of an apology after Tuko linked him to a baby mama drama in US.

Through lawyer David Katee of JTM Advocate, the “Mtoto Mzuri” singer accused Tuko of publishing a story of an alleged fight between his baby mama and girlfriend on July 9, 2023.

Nonini has denied any connection to the two women who are alleged to have physically fought during the event held in Maryland, US, where the popular rapper currently resides.

“Our client intimates to us that in the article, the author purports that at event held in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America where our client is currently domiciled, two women fought over him, one being his girlfriend and another being the mother of his child,” said the lawyer in his demand letter.

The letter went on: “While our client agrees that he attended the event, which he highly promoted on his social media pages, he disagrees that he has any affiliation to any of the women that were involved in the altercation in question.”

Nonini further intimates that he says the fight but does not personally know any of the women involved and termed the story linking him to them as false and malicious.

“Therefore, the story published on your platform associating him with the said women is false, malicious, sensationalized and fiction to say the least,” added the lawyer in the letter.

Nonini, according to his lawyer, says he feels defamed by the story that he says has caused a huge dent in his brand “which is family centered and oriented.”

He is demanding that Tuko pulls down the story, issues a prominent apology within 24 hours, admit liability for defaming him within 24 hours so that they can discuss damages or face legal proceedings.

On March 24, 2023, Nonini won a copyright infringement case he had filed against Kenyan social media influencer Brian Mutinda for using his popular song ‘We Kamu’ in an advert.

Mutinda was ordered by the Milimani Commercial Magistrate Court to pay the rapper Sh1 million and pull down the said video from all his social media platforms.
