Kirinyaga County has commissioned a new maize flour milling factory in Wang’uru town, Mwea, as part of ongoing efforts to develop its agro-processing sector and create more job opportunities for residents.

Governor Anne Waiguru, who presided over the launch, said her administration would continue implementing business-friendly policies to attract more investments in the region.

She noted that improved infrastructure, modernised towns, and availability of raw materials had contributed to increased interest from industrial players.

“Kirinyaga is the new frontier for investment due to the conducive environment we have created. You do not need to know anyone for you to set up a business in Kirinyaga,” Waiguru said.

She described the new milling plant as part of a broader development strategy focused on improving agricultural value chains and increasing farmers’ earnings.

“The new milling plant will provide a guaranteed market for farm produce in line with the county’s vision of increasing farmers’ incomes,” she said.

The facility, named Nice Extra Premium Millers, is owned by Charles Njiru-Mukombozi. It has an initial daily production capacity of 250 tonnes and is expected to employ over 1,000 people.

Mukombozi said he intends to expand into wheat milling and animal feed production within five months.

“This is not just a business, it is a platform for empowerment, job creation, and a celebration of what is possible when vision meets support,” he said.

He added, “Governor Waiguru has made it possible for investors like me to believe in Kirinyaga. Her leadership is not only visionary but it is also enabling.”

Waiguru said the county is making long-term investments in areas such as market upgrades, cabro-paving of car parks, tomato propagation centres, healthcare facilities, and a new fire station in Kutus, all aimed at supporting trade and improving the quality of life for residents.

She encouraged more investors to consider setting up operations in Kirinyaga, stating that the county is steadily transforming into a competitive investment destination.
