Homegrown talent lit up the greens at Sigona Golf Club as Sandeep Matharu and Zipporah Gichigi swung their way to glory at the 16th leg of the 2025 NCBA Golf Series on Saturday.
With crisp shots and cool nerves, Matharu (HC 2) claimed the Overall Gross Winner (Men) title with a clean 72 gross, while Gichigi (HC 7) got 86 gross to bag the Overall Lady Winner trophy.
The Sigona edition of the compelling series attracted 260 golfers from across the region proving to be one of the most electric stops on the NCBA Golf Series tour thus far.
Despite the chilly weather, competition was fiery across the board, with players battling for bragging rights and tickets to the Grand Finale slated for Muthaiga Golf Club in November.

Division One (Handicaps 5–12)
• Saahil Shah (HC 10) delivered a clinical round, carding 40 points to top the category.
• He also exuded power and precision to take home the Longest Drive (Men) title.
Division Two (Handicaps 13–24)
• Milan Varsani (HC 18) displayed remarkable form under pressure to steer the men category with a cool 42 points.
• Jane Njau (HC 14) brought her A-game to claim the women’s top spot with 33 points and also added to the flex by taking home the Longest Drive (Ladies) title.
Division Three (Handicap 25+)
• Bharat Lakhani truly lit up the course by carding a brilliant 43 points, which was the highest Stableford score of the day.
Similarly, Tonny Tugee (HC 12) carded an impressive 38 points to emerge the guest winner.
Driving Growth
Speaking at the awarding ceremony, NCBA Bank ABC Place Branch Manager Rose Mburu reiterated NCBA Group’s commitment to the growth of golf in East Africa as a top priority.
“We believe golf has the power to bring people together, build character, and inspire communities,” said Mburu.
She added: “That is why we continue to walk this journey alongside players from all levels – juniors, amateurs, and professionals alike.”
NCBA has committed Sh60 million to support various golf activities in 2025, including the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series and junior golf development programs.
