TikTok has announced a set of new features aimed at giving users more control over their For You feed.
The tools, which are available to both teens and adults, are designed to help users discover content they enjoy while avoiding topics they would rather not see.
Below is a summary of the six key updates:
1. Manage Topics
Users can now influence how often they see content from more than 10 major categories, including Sports, Travel, Nature, and Creative Arts. The Manage Topics feature lets users adjust the frequency of these topics in their feed with just a few taps, without completely removing any of them.

2. Smart Keyword Filter
TikTok has improved its keyword filtering tool by adding Smart Keyword Filter. This new version recognises synonyms and related terms, helping users filter out a wider range of unwanted content more effectively.
The keyword limit has also been doubled from 100 to 200, and users can now add keywords in bulk and choose related keywords to include in the filtering.
3. Custom Keyword Filters
Custom keyword filters have already been used over 190 million times globally.
The new update builds on this by expanding functionality and making it easier for users to exclude specific words and phrases from their feeds.
4. Educational Guide on the For You Feed
TikTok is introducing a comprehensive guide to help users understand how their For You feed works.
The guide includes practical tips, tools, and educational videos that explain why certain content is recommended.
These videos have already received over 180 million views worldwide.
5. Strengthened Safety Measures for Teens
To protect younger users, TikTok will continue applying its Content Levels system to prevent mature or complex content from appearing in teens’ For You feeds.
Content that doesn’t meet general audience standards will also be restricted from recommendation across all user accounts.
6. Additional Feed Controls
TikTok has added more tools to help users customise their experience.
These include the ability to refresh the For You feed, mark videos as “not interested,” and activate Restricted Mode to reduce exposure to uncomfortable or sensitive content.
The platform is also working to reduce repeated recommendations of content that could be problematic if viewed too often.
TikTok’s Head of Operations & Trust & Safety, Adam Presser, said, “The For You feed is what makes TikTok a place like no other to discover your favourite new interests or grow a thriving community. With our new features, you can manage topics you want to see in your For You feed and limit keywords and hashtags you'd rather skip, so that it's easier than ever to find creators, hobbies, and content you love.”
TikTok highlighted examples such as BoxToBox Regista, which shares real-time football highlights, and Juneclairedontre, a popular voice in movie reviews, as proof of how the For You feed continues to help creators build strong online communities.
