As the 2025 Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Conference came to a close in Mombasa, NCBA Bank unveiled a game-changing solution to Kenya’s water crisis - NCBA Water Loan.
The bold new financial product unveiled by NCBA Bank is aimed at enabling individuals and businesses across Kenya to secure access to clean water and proper sanitation.
Developed in collaboration with Water.org, the new loan seeks to bridge one of the country’s most pressing development gaps: safe water and sanitation for all.
In a country where 15 million people still lack access to safe drinking water, and 37 million have no access to a safe toilet, this novel initiative could not have come at a better time.
The conference, themed “Sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Management Solutions” brought together key players in the sector, including Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng Eric Mugaa and Nation Media Group CEO Geoffrey Odundo.

As a top sponsor of the high-level forum, NCBA Bank reiterated its growing role in Kenya’s sustainability journey, part of its Sh30 billion commitment to sustainability financing.
“At NCBA, we prioritize seamless access to funding for players in the Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation ecosystem in line with our Sh30 billion commitment to sustainability financing,” said Robert Kiboti, NCBA’s Director of Commercial and SME Banking.
What makes NCBA Bank’s Water Loan especially attractive is its speed and accessibility.
The lender promises conditional approval in just 15 seconds, and a formal offer letter within 48 hours—an unprecedented move in Kenya’s banking sector aimed at fast-tracking water projects.
“Our nationwide branch network is supported by trained relationship managers working alongside consultants and engineers through Water.org to deliver practical water solutions that advance SDG 6—Clean Water and Sanitation for All,” Kiboti added.
Beyond loans, NCBA offers leasing options via its Asset Finance division to ensure access to the key tools and equipment needed to build and sustain water infrastructure across Kenya.
The bank’s partnership with Water.org not only brings financing to the table but also technical expertise.
Water.org, which is known for its impact-driven work, has partnered with financial institutions in Kenya before—with a proven 98 per cent repayment rate on previous sanitation and water loans.
Their involvement is a strong vote of confidence in the effectiveness of the Water Loan offered by NCBA Bank.
As the country pushes toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6, this initiative could unlock economic opportunities, reduce disease, and empower families and SMEs to take charge of their water futures.
NCBA is also going the extra mile by offering advice and educational support through its Customer Value Propositions, encouraging customers to walk into any branch to learn how they can be part of this vital movement.
In a country where access to clean water is not just a necessity but a lifeline, NCBA’s Water Loan may just be the spark that causes a ripple effect of change one drop of water at a time.
