The UN Global Compact Network Kenya has ushered in a new era of leadership, bringing on board top business executives to steer the country’s sustainability journey across the private sector.
Absa Bank Kenya CEO and MD Abdi Mohamed has been named the new Chair of the Board, taking over from outgoing Sasini CEO & MD Martin Ochieng, whose tenure has ended.
Mohamed, a seasoned banker and advocate for inclusive finance, is set to inject fresh energy into the Network’s mission of promoting responsible business and driving the sustainability agenda across Kenya’s corporate landscape.
Joining him in leadership is East African Breweries Limited (EABL) Group Managing Director and CEO of Jane Karuku, who steps in as Vice Chair.
Karuku takes over from Standard Chartered Bank Kenya and Africa CEO Kariuki Ngari.

Also stepping down is KEPSA CEO Carole Kariuki, who has played a key role in forging public-private partnerships and strengthening ethical business conduct in Kenya.
The board has also welcomed three new members:
• Tom Gitogo – GMD & CEO, Britam Holdings PLC
• Dr Toseef Din – CEO, MP Shah Hospital
• Mary-Ann Musangi – MD, Haco Industries
Additionally, Transparency International Kenya Executive Director Sheila Masinde, and Alamaya Group Director Jonathan Van Zeller, have been re-elected to serve another 3-year term.
This revamped board now brings together key voices from finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and civil society to foster ethical business and inclusive economic growth.
“The incoming Board is well-positioned to provide the strategic guidance needed to accelerate responsible and sustainable business across Kenya and the region,” said Outgoing Chair Martin Ochieng.
On his part, Mohamed reaffirmed his commitment to pushing the Network and other corporate stakeholder to deepen the sustainability agenda and its impact in the country.
“I look forward to scaling up our collective efforts in championing sustainability, engaging the private sector, and delivering meaningful contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kenya,” he said.
The UN Global Compact Network Kenya is now set to expand its influence in shaping a more sustainable and equitable business environment for the future through the diverse board.
