Drivers on Bolt’s platform in Kenya will now have access to an affordable dash cam solution, following a new partnership with Driver Technologies, a technology firm.

The initiative allows drivers to use their smartphones as both inward- and outward-facing cameras, offering them advanced safety coverage at a fraction of the normal cost.

Bolt has confirmed that driver partners will enjoy the first month of the premium dash cam app free of charge.

After this trial period, they can continue using it at a discounted monthly rate of Sh386.

The subscription unlocks unlimited trip storage, easy access to recordings, and the ability to share videos through the Driver Cloud.

Crucially, the app records in the background without disrupting the Bolt application, and includes a small Picture-in-Picture display to reassure drivers that it is active.

Speaking about the move, Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager, Rides at Bolt, noted the importance of making such technology accessible.

“Driver partners frequently share that dash cams provide not only enhanced security and peace of mind, but also greater accountability in their trips. Unfortunately, the cost of acquiring a reliable device has often been a barrier," Kanyankole stated.

"Through our collaboration with Driver Technologies, we are addressing this challenge by offering discounted access to premium dash cam features."

According to Kanyankole, the move empowers drivers with tools that improve safety, support accurate clarification of incidents, and foster greater trust between drivers and passengers affordably.

The system is designed to help reduce disputes and provide evidence in the event of accidents, police reports, or insurance claims, since both the road ahead and the inside of the car are captured.

Driver Technologies will also extend IT and data management support to drivers using the app.

Marcus Newbury, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Driver Technologies, emphasised the company’s goal in the collaboration, saying.

"We are delighted to have partnered with Bolt to help driver partners and passengers feel more secure with a reliable dash cam product that meets their requirements at a discounted rate," Newbury.

Bolt’s dash cam service is the latest addition to its wider safety toolkit.

In recent months, the company has rolled out features such as Rider Verification, pick-up codes, and Trusted Contacts in Kenya to reinforce accountability and trust on its platform.

The dash cam app, Driver: Driving and Dash Cam App, is available to download on both iOS and Android devices.
