Bungoma Media FC outshone fierce rivals Kakamega A FC in a nail-biting 3-2 win to claim the Safaricom 5-Aside Greater Western Regional Tournament title, held at Kisumu’s Moi Stadium this past Sunday.
In front of a lively crowd and against the scenic backdrop of Lake Victoria, the two sides delivered a thrilling showdown of skill, grit and regional pride.
For their triumph, Bungoma Media FC bagged KSh50,000, while runners-up Kakamega A FC earned KSh30,000.
But it did not stop at cash prizes, players from both teams walked away with extra rewards including power banks and shopping vouchers.

It also served as an energetic curtain-raiser for the M-PESA Sokoni Caravan Tour, which rolls into Migori this week as part of M-PESA @ 18 celebrations.
“This was more than just a tournament, it was a chance to connect, laugh, compete and celebrate our craft. We hope Safaricom takes this national,” said Mourice Alal, a journalist from Kisumu.
The pitch saw fierce competition from 14 media teams drawn from Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, and Kisumu, a vibrant segment of the Greater Western media fraternity.
The day was marked by camaraderie, healthy rivalry, and unity of purpose, values that are aligned with Safaricom’s commitment to empowering communities.
